Ending Anna's Isolation

Anna looks in wonder as a CBM doctor shows her a map of Tanzania.

At the age of 30, she has never before left her village.

A thousand things which we take for granted, Anna has never before experienced or even seen.

"At the time of delivery, things went wrong," Anna recalls. "Afterwards I had problems not only with my urine but with my bowel."

Anna suffered a devastating internal tear causing chronic incontinence.

With no medical help nearby, Anna lived with her fistula for another 10 years, not knowing that her condition could be repaired by CBM medical teams.

Anna also describes how her geographic isolation became total social isolation. Unable to control her flow of urine or faeces, Anna was rejected by her community of 10 humiliating years.

At last Anna has receive a fistula repair operation from CBM; "I will be very happy to go home cured!"
