Your donations helped 5.1 million people

Through your compassion, your commitment to social justice and your generous support, CBM Australia transformed the lives of more than 5.1 million people with disabilities and their families in 2020 alone.

Our field programs and our Inclusion Advisory Group worked in 22 of the poorest countries in the Pacific, Asia and Africa to end the cycle of poverty and disability.

Because of your generosity, CBM Australia can continue to use our experience working alongside people with disabilities and organisations of people with disabilities to create an ongoing ripple effect that ensures widespread, systematic change. Thank you!

How does CBM Australia spend each dollar?

In 2020, for every dollar given to CBM Australia, 73 cents supported programs and 20 cents generated funds to support future programs, leaving 7 cents to deliver accountability and administration. For every dollar CBM Australia spent in 2020 on fundraising, $3.73 in income was generated from the Australian public.

Together we can do more

You, our generous supporters, know that people with disabilities are more likely to live in poverty, and people living in poor communities are more likely to have or acquire a disability.

We know more than one in five of the world’s poorest people has a disability. We know that 200 million children under five years of age do not reach their cognitive and social-emotional development potential. And we know that people with disabilities living in poverty face stigma, violence and discrimination; many are invisible.

People with disabilities living in poverty have reduced access to food, health care, education, rehabilitation and assistive devices, living in conditions that are often unsafe and inaccessible. This means a lack of key opportunities like livelihoods or training. And now, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the situation is even more dire. The World Bank estimates that between 119 and 124 million people joined the global poor in 2020.

CBM’s experience, expertise, partnerships and unwavering commitment to social justice and human rights ensures we can create a ripple effect that will change lives, change communities and change systems. Now, more than ever, we need you to support us to ensure compassionate and sustainable change that will end the cycle of poverty and disability, and leave no one behind.

Where did CBM Australia’s support come from?

Despite living through the uncertainty of COVID-19, the compassion of Australians overflowed — particularly as evidence continued to mount of the catastrophic effects of the pandemic on people with disabilities living in the poorest countries. The results of your generosity and the flexibility of the Australian Government through the Australian NGO Cooperation Program (ANCP) ensured we could continue to provide our programs to the most vulnerable and use our grant to address new and pressing needs — such as accessible public health messages, protective personal equipment, emergency provisions and additional training.

In 2020, ANCP supported 18 CBM Australia projects that responded to COVID-19.
