Week 1 – Lent series 2026
Lent, Stories | February 18, 2026
As we enter the season of Lent, we’re taking time as a community to pause, reflect, and draw closer to the heart of God. Lent invites us into a posture of humility and renewal, and this year, our CBM Australia team is marking the season by sharing weekly reflections grounded in scripture, prayer, and the heart of our mission.
Over the next six weeks, we’ll be sharing personal reflections from our CBM staff, associates and ambassadors, each reflection exploring what God is speaking to them this Lent, the scripture guiding their steps, and how their faith shapes their commitment to disability inclusion and justice.
This week we hear from CBM Australia Associate, Stevie Wills, as she reflects on Romans 8:15-17 and what it means to be adopted into God’s family, to share in both the suffering and glorification of Christ.
The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.
Romans 8:15-17
“This Lent I am reflecting on what it means to be adopted into God’s family. To share in the heart of God and his son Jesus Christ. To share in the suffering of Christ as well as his glorification and resurrection.
Jesus’ suffering included his compassion and grief for those who are marginalised and hurting. Therefore, to grieve for those who are marginalised and suffering is part of what it means to fellowship with Jesus and share in his suffering. When we display the goodness of Jesus, we are sharing in his glorification. Jesus walked alongside people who were oppressed. So when we walk alongside people who are marginalised, we share in his goodness…the glorification of Christ.
As I have worked with CBM I have shared in Jesus’ suffering and glorification. I grieve over the marginalisation and disadvantage that people with disabilities who live in poverty face. As I advocate for inclusion and empowerment of all people with disabilities I share in Jesus goodness; his glorification.”
