Week five – Lent series 2026
Lent, Stories | March 18, 2026
This week we invite you to join us as we reflect with CBM Australia Ambassador, Lucy Holmes. Through Lucy’s work in Christian radio, she’s constantly reminded how powerful it is to listen and to talk with others.
She reflects on John 4 and the story of the woman at the well.
“Jesus crossed cultural lines, social barriers and deep prejudice to sit beside one woman at a well. He didn’t avoid her story. He didn’t rush past her pain. He chose to sit with her, a woman others dismissed, judged, and kept at arm’s length. He spoke gently. Kindly. And in doing so, He restored her dignity and changed her life.”
For Lucy, Lent is a time to slow down and take notice of those around her, to listen more carefully, lead with kindness and love, and to join others at the well.
“Lent always reminds me to slow down. (And if you know me, you know I struggle with that!) It invites me to notice the person in front of me, not just the task ahead of me. To listen more carefully. To lead with kindness and love. To simply be… and to sit at the well with people.
At CBM, this is what moves me most. They don’t rush past those at the well. They stop. They help. Children with disabilities who deserve education. Families who deserve healthcare. Communities who deserve opportunity and inclusion. I’m so thankful that CBM reminds me that dignity changes everything.
Jesus stopped for the one.
So this Lent, I’m asking God to help me do the same, to be present and to love others, just by sitting at the well.”
