Twahiri's Story

The gift you send today can give someone like Twahiri a whole lifetime of sight.

Twahiri’s mother, Fatuma, is not only poor, her life has been full of grief. Always hoping for a child, she miscarried nine times.

Finally, when she received her heart’s desire, her beautiful new baby was blind. Twahiri was born with cataracts in his tiny eyes.

Abandoned by her husband, Fatuma watched her little boy waste away from malnutrition.

Imagine if your own child was blind in such a poor place, rejected by other children, barred from school in a society where disability is not understood and considered a curse. In places like Tanzania, people with disability often have no rights.

What hope could Twahiri have for marriage or family or livelihood? His only hope was a miracle from God.

Make miracles happen!

Fatuma nearly lost hope, but thanks to our Australian supporters, the staff had the resources to nurse and nourish Twahiri back to health.

You can be part of God’s miracles, by helping CBM Australia raise enough money for 10,000 Miracles in 10 days, from March 13–22.

That’s 10,000 operations to remove cataracts like Twahiri’s.

What is a miracle?

It takes just 12 minutes and $32 to give an adult the gift of sight for life.

That is a miracle!

A child’s operation costs $230, because children need a general anaesthetic. Still, $230 is not much if it gives a child a whole lifetime of freedom, independence and dignity.
