Advent 2025: Jesus’ way leads to fullness
Advent, Lent, Luke14, Stories | December 20, 2025 | Author: Stevie Wills
The way of Jesus gives people freedom and empowers them to live out their God-given purpose.
The last few weeks we’ve been journeying through Advent, reflecting on the theme of ‘Prepare the Way’. God’s presence is community and the coming of his presence calls every person into community with him and with one another. Preparing the way asks us to remove barriers to people with disabilities being fully involved in community. Reflect further through our Advent 2025 series.
John the Baptist fulfilled the prophecy in Malachi that spoke of one who would prepare the way before the Lord. He did this by calling others to join him in preparing the way. He called them to repent and by doing so, produce fruit. The fruit was fair, honest, and shared with the less fortunate.
John was preparing the way for Christ. The one who would come after him. “The one whose sandals he was not worthy to untie. The one who would baptise with the Holy spirit and fire.” – Luke 3:16. The one who the people were waiting for.
In Luke 4, Jesus begins his ministry. He went to a synagogue and read from Isaiah,
“The Spirit of the Lord is on me,
because he has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners
and recovery of sight for the blind,
to set the oppressed free,
to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour.” (Luke 4:18, 19)
Then Jesus said “Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing” (Luke 4:21).
Jesus announced that He was the fulfilment of the words in Isaiah. He was the one that John had been preparing the way before. Jesus was the way himself. He was the one the people had been waiting for.
The way of Jesus is described in Luke 4:18 and 19. He came to bring good news to the poor, to proclaim freedom for prisoners, recover the sight for those who are blind, and to set free those who are oppressed. The way of Jesus brings hope and restoration for all people.
Yet, people with disabilities who live in low- and middle-income countries face barriers to accessing education, healthcare, livelihood opportunities and rehabilitation. These barriers lead to poverty, poorer health outcomes, and marginalisation. These barriers prevent people with disabilities from fully participating in community and reaching their potential.
Removing barriers gives people with disabilities the freedom and opportunities to fully participate in community and be all that they can be. It’s a means to participate in the way…Jesus’ way.
CBM works alongside partners and people with disabilities who live in low- and middle-income countries to remove barriers. We would love you to partner with us in removing barriers. You can join us in prayer each day through our prayer diary.
CBM works in the medical field of recovering sight through partnering with surgeons, doctors and healthcare workers. You can give the gift of sight to people who live in poverty this Christmas through our meaningful gifts catalogue.
Let’s work together to bring opportunities for people with disabilities to fully participate in their community.
Pray with us
Lord Jesus,
Thank you that you have come. Thank you that you are the way and that your way brings people freedom for all people.
Help us to participate in your way and remove barriers so that people with disabilities have opportunities to fully participate in their communities.
Help us to remember you this Christmas,
Amen.
