CBM Australia launches appeal for Nepal floods

Stories | August 28, 2026

CBM Australia has launched an appeal following devastating flash flooding in north-central Nepal, with a focus on reaching people with disabilities and the most vulnerable people who are too often left out of emergency responses.

The floods struck border regions of Nepal on 26 August, causing widespread devastation. Close to 400 people have already been confirmed dead, with hundreds more missing.
In disasters like this, people with disabilities are too often forgotten, neglected and overlooked. They can be at the back of every queue, unable to reach distribution points, or unaware of where emergency support is available.

CBM has been working with people with disabilities in Nepal since 1982 and remains in close contact with its team and local partners. Our in-country partners are ready to act, with the skills, relationships and disability inclusion expertise needed to help people with disabilities access support.

Immediate needs include clean and safe water, emergency hygiene kits, shelter, sanitation services and assistive devices such as crutches, canes, walkers, wheelchairs and prosthetic limbs for people who have lost or damaged them in the floods.

Water, sanitation and hygiene needs are growing every day. As the risk of water-borne disease increases, families are struggling to meet their most basic needs.

Donations will help CBM and its partners provide life-saving essentials and reach people with disabilities during the immediate response and long road to recovery.
