We are in the Philippines to see Miracles

We’re going to the Philippines to see Miracles happen!

 |  CBM news, Miracles Day 2017

Like a fish out of water is how some of Australia’s well loved radio hosts will be feeling.

Broadcasting live from–the Philippines, representatives from Australian Christian radio stations will be seeing firsthand the life-changing impact of cataract surgery in the lead up and on the day for CBM’s Miracles Day this Thursday 17th August.

The dedicated team will be sharing stories and spreading the word about CBM’s sight-saving surgery and its impact and how little it takes (just $32 dollars!) to make a life-changing difference in someone’s life.

Why cataracts? And why the Philippines?

CBM Australia report that cataracts are the world’s leading cause of blindness in middle and low income countries, making up almost half of all blindness.

With around 18 million people in the world being blind from cataracts, 90% of those who are visually impaired live in poor countries.

The Philippines is just one of the countries that CBM Australia work with local partners to help restore sight to the blind.

What is the purpose of the trip for a radio host?

Lucy from LightFM explained after her last trip with CBM how her experience impacts not only her listeners but her very own family.

"In a few days, I’ll be on a plane heading home to my family. My little two year old girl will run towards me at the airport and throw herself into my arms. She can see me. She doesn’t live in darkness like so many of the children I saw waiting silently on beds in that small regional hospital. And as she grows up, I will show her pictures of these people. And tell her their stories. So we never forget how blessed we are."

Mariska Meldrum, organiser of the event, says:

"I honestly believe that the reason stations set aside time to travel to see cataract surgeries first hand is because they know that through their experiences, they will be able to encourage thousands of others to give the miracle gift of sight to those who are needlessly blind."

The Team

Mariska said CBM was thrilled that some of Australia’s largest Christian radio sations are on this year’s trip.

”We have breakfast and drive-time teams from popular stations including LightFM in Melbourne, HopeFM in Sydney, FamilyFM in Brisbane, and 98five SonshineFM in Perth and LifeFM in Adelaide.

In their own words

LightFM summed up their motivation to be involved, referencing a Bible verse about our part in spreading the word of good news.

"So he replied to the messengers, "Go back and report to John what you have seen and heard: The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is proclaimed to the poor." Luke 7:22

Cataract is the leading cause of blindness and it is preventable for just $32 with a simple 12 minute miracle operation. You can help restore sight TODAY and make more Miracles possible! You can donate early today – click here
