Walking and writing with ease: Clydelle’s journey
Stories | October 18, 2024
Clydelle is a delightful little five-year-old from the Philippines. Born with Cerebral Palsy, she found it difficult to control the movement of her arms and legs. This has meant that while other kids her age were off running around or drawing colourful pictures with ease, Clydelle had to rely on the support of her family to help her walk, and found it challenging to perform controlled tasks, such as drawing and writing.

As Clydelle began to speak, her family also noticed that they could not understand her words. She stuttered and could not complete a whole sentence. Most often, she communicated through gestures. This was until she got involved in a project supported by CBM that is helping children with disabilities in the Philippines through access to therapy, including at home rehabilitation services.
Following her assessment, Clydelle had five sessions of tele-speech therapy and was provided with a 6-month home-based physical therapy program to improve her speech and communication in the comfort of her own home. She was also given a walker to improve her balance.
And it’s working! Clydelles speech has improved, her family can understand her, and she can walk by herself, with minimal to no assistance. Like other kids her age, she is now attending Day Care and writing with ease.
