Easy Read your way through our evaluation report
At CBM Australia, we recognise that accessibility is not optional – it is a fundamental pre-condition for inclusion. People with disabilities have the right to access not only physical environments but also information and communications. To uphold this right, we have been working on producing Easy Read versions of key documents, ensuring that our information and communication is accessible to a wider audience. Removing barriers to understanding is one way in which we are helping enable people with disabilities to participate in society on an equal basis with others.

Through our work with the National Federation of the Disabled Nepal (NFDN), supported by the Australian Government, CBM is committed to ensuring that people with disabilities can access essential information in formats that meet their needs. NFDN ensure that all reports are produced in accessible formats, including Braille, audio, and Easy Read. Easy Read uses simplified language, short sentences and visual supports to convey information clearly. NFDN engage and remunerate a group of people with intellectual disabilities to review and edit all Easy Read drafts prior to publication – ensuring content is accessible.
Recently, we developed Easy Read versions – in English and in Nepali – of the evaluation summary for the ‘Include Us’ project, a five-year initiative that focused on activating people with disabilities for their rights and opportunities. These accessible summaries highlight both the achievements, and the challenges identified through the evaluation. By prioritising accessible formats, we are reinforcing our commitment to inclusive development, extending the reach of our communications, enabling a broader and more diverse audience to engage with our work.

The Easy Read summaries feature 21 illustrations that visually convey how those involved in the project contributed to strengthening the justice system, schools and the health system to be more inclusive and accessible, and even influencing the national census in Nepal to include questions on disability. The project worked with 33 local Organisations of People with Disabilities (OPDs), strengthening their confidence and leadership, while also providing targeted support to individuals with learning difficulties to develop essential life skills.
While the full evaluation report remains available, the Easy Read version offers a clear and accessible overview of the project’s outcomes – ensuring that more people can engage with and learn from its findings.
