Improving the World: Through a Child’s Eyes

Giselle is one of our young Miracles Day donors. In recent years, Giselle has saved up her pocket money to give to people in need. We got in touch with her to find out what inspired such a generous gift and what else she’s doing to make the world a better place.
Giselle, why did you chose to donate to Miracles Day?
I donated to Miracles day because I wanted someone to see how valuable their life is, and to see their parent’s/children’s faces.
That’s an amazing gift. Is sight something that is close to your heart?
I would like to make sure that everyone can read, and for that they need to see. I’m also passionate about stopping palm oil and climate change.
Children are the future, what are you doing now to make the world a better place?
I’m making the world a better place by being part of my school’s Green Team. I’m also starting a child-run organisation called “Kwa Watoto” to raise funds for children in Kenya who live on the streets. In Swahili this means “for the children”.
What else do you like to do in your spare time?
Completing Girl Guide badges, reading and cycling. I’d like to do “Ride Around The Lake” in Wollongong, NSW, to help break the cycle of youth homelessness.
Is there anything else you’d like to tell our readers?
$33 gives one person their sight back.
I’m an 11-year old girl. I partnered with CBM in 2018 to open one person’s eyes. Last year I helped three people. This year I want to help five people.
