Georges Melep from Vanuatu is joining CBM Australia at Voices for Justice this year.
Georges is passionate about community work that promotes the rights of people with disabilities and the broader community. He has been involved with the Vanuatu Disability Promotion & Advocacy Association (VDPA) since 2014 and is currently a board member at VDPA and Youth Chairman of the Area Council for East Malo.
A keen advocate for disability-inclusive disaster preparedness and responses at community, province and national levels, Georges works to ensure all people are safe in times of disaster. He advocates for the needs and rights of people with disabilities as a Community Disaster Climate Change committee member and as a representative of the Area Technical Advisory Group for his local area. He has also worked with the Water for Women Project undertaking survey work in Sanma and Torba Provinces.
Georges lives his Christian faith in practice with the Church of Christ.
VDPA is the national Disabled Persons Organization (DPO) of Vanuatu. VDPA has contributed significantly to advancing the rights of people with disabilities through the development of its affiliate members and through developing a positive and proactive working relationship with the Government of Vanuatu. As a result, disability is on the local, national and regional agendas.
Georges is attending Voices for Justice in 2019 with the support of CBM Australia.
