This evaluation summary highlights the impact of phase 1 of the Organisations of People with Disabilities (OPD) Leadership, Engagement and Development (LEAD) project (April 2023–August 2024), which supported 11 Organisations of People with Disabilities (OPDs) across eight counties in Kenya. Through strengthened governance, leadership, and financial systems, OPDs have transitioned from being passive participants to active leaders in their communities.

Key achievements include:

  • Improved governance and financial accountability across most OPDs.
  • Successful advocacy leading to increased county budgets for disability inclusion.
  • Launch of income-generating businesses.
  • Distribution of 225 assistive devices and facilitation of corrective surgeries.
  • Increased OPD involvement in public decision-making and accessibility planning.

The project, implemented by CBM Global and funded by CBM Australia, has laid a strong foundation for sustainable, inclusive development led by people with disabilities themselves.
