Because of you... Patrick can see!

Do you remember Patrick? Just months ago, this bright 13-year-old boy was struggling at school because of the cataracts clouding his vision.

Patrick told our team, “When I go to school, I find it difficult to see my teachers’ writings.”

His mother Michl was filled with worry. Would Patrick ever be able to finish his education? What will his future look like? Their family could barely afford food, let alone the specialist eye surgery Patrick desperately needed.

We’re thrilled to share that CBM partners connected with Patrick’s family and Patrick received sight-saving cataract surgery followed by a full recovery.

He can SEE because of you!

Michl recently shared this wonderful update…

“When we came into town after the operation, Patrick said to me ‘Mummy, that mountain that is far away, now I can see it clearly.”

For Patrick, seeing that distant mountain clearly for the first time was like discovering a whole new world. Not only can he now see his beautiful surroundings, but Patrick can also play with other children and participate fully in school life.

The worry that once consumed Michl has been replaced with hope for Patrick’s bright future – “I’m happy that he can see things, and when he goes to school, it shouldn’t be difficult for him.”

Patrick now has the chance to reach his dreams…

“When I grow up, I want to become a Pastor because I am happy with the work they do.”

Thank you for giving the Miracle Gift of Sight to Patrick and more children like him who are going needlessly blind to cataracts.

Thank you, Lucy!

We’re thankful to CBM’s Ambassador Lucy Holmes who played an integral role in spreading the word and supporting our appeal to help Patrick and more children like him. Lucy perfectly captures the impact of your support:

“You can’t change the world on your own. But you can change the world for one person! When you help a child see, they can get an education, have a career, and go on to have children who will never know the poverty they did.”

“Through CBM, all the people with disabilities in my area have come together to prepare each other to face disasters. Now, we know how to keep ourselves safe… And the fear we used to have is no longer there.” - Huda

Huda’s family has the strength to face anything... BECAUSE OF YOU!

We recently shared Huda’s story – a brave man with disability who survived a catastrophic cyclone that left his family living “hand to mouth in tents on the road.” Huda was living in constant fear of the next disaster.

But because of you, Huda’s family has now learnt crucial skills to survive future disasters.

Through your generosity, people with disabilities like Huda and their families can now prepare their communities, train in essential skills, and protect themselves through life-saving disaster preparedness programs.

Thank you for ensuring no one is left behind when disaster strikes!

“This program has taught me how to keep ourselves safe during disasters. I will share what I learn about disaster management with everyone in my area.”– Huda’s wife, Sufia

We asked for the extraordinary... and your response was incredible

There is a desperate need to stop people going needlessly blind and to change the lives of whole communities forever. That’s why our very own Mariska Meldrum sent out a special request asking for the extraordinary.

Her hope was that some of you might have both the heart and means to help through exceptional kindness. A very special thank you is extended to everyone who responded so kindly.

Because of you:

  • Thousands of people have each given the Miracle gift of sight to 100 people.
  • More people are being trained to become Eye Doctors (Ophthalmologists)

We are humbled by those who helped provide comprehensive screening kits. These kits will enable our teams to identify and diagnose a range of eye problems during screening camps and outreaches in remote, hard to reach communities across Nepal.

And to those extraordinary donors who have supported two new Vision Centres in the Philippines, thank you for the incredible generosity you have shown.

These outstanding acts of generosity will restore sight for entire communities – thank you!

When death comes by a billion cuts... your one heart saves lives

We reached out to supporters about the devastating global aid cuts putting over 120 million people in terrible danger – hundreds of billions of dollars slashed, vital programs for people with disabilities severely cut or closed completely, clean water programs shutting down…

And YOU stepped up with courage and kindness to help fill the gap.

Many of our local partners were watching their lifesaving work disappear, but you responded with generosity and love.

Your generous donations are providing people with disabilities the support they need to feel respected, connected, to fully participate in community life – so they can ultimately lift themselves out of poverty.

When so many were threatened by these devastating cuts, you acted with one heart.

Together, we’re ensuring the most vulnerable people aren’t pushed even further into poverty. Thank you!

As our CEO Jane Edge says, you are truly the heart of this movement - “A movement that reaches the people who Jesus would sit with, those who are outcasts.”
