'Walking freely’ because of you
When Sarbendra was 8 years old, he accidentally stepped on a live wire on side of the road. His injuries were so severe, his leg had to be amputated.
Despite living in extreme poverty, Sarbendra’s mum scrimped and saved up enough to purchase a prosthetic limb for her child. But it was poorly fitted and it soon splintered and broke.
Years went by with Sarbendra stuck at home, unable to make the hour-long walk to school and back.
We asked our amazing CBM Australia supporters if you could help, and your heartfelt response blew us away.
Because of you, this young boy was given a new prosthetic leg and life-changing surgery to help it fit properly. Sarbendra and his mum are overjoyed, and are now filled with hope for the future.
He told us,
“I like my prosthetic leg because I can walk freely on it. I have now resumed school, and I am grateful for this support.”
Because of you, Goma and her children have a ‘second chance at life’
Goma and her two children have experienced life-long blindness. A gene, passed down from parent to child, caused them all to develop cataracts at a young age.
As a result, Goma’s children had never been to school, and she herself was unable to find work or earn a living.
Thankfully, amazing CBM supporters like you reached out and completely changed their lives.
Because of your outstanding generosity, Goma and her two boys were able to get sight-restoring cataract surgery. And they have now been set free from blindness!
The day after the operation, Goma told us,
‘I am truly happy to have had the operation, but what makes me happiest is knowing my children will also be able to see the world. I would like to express my thanks. It truly feels like we’ve been given a new life, a second chance at life. We were living in darkness, now we are filled with hope.’
