Board of Directors

Our Board of Directors is responsible for CBM Australia’s overall performance and compliance, providing strategic direction, effective governance and leadership on behalf of members and supporters.


Bill AustinMELVIN WILLIAM (BILL) AUSTIN
Bill has been the Board Chair since May 2011, having joined the Board in 2008. He holds a Master of Science and is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. Bill is retiring at the 2017 CBM Australia AGM.
Special responsibilities
CBM Australia Board Chair, Member of the Board Development & Human Resources and Finance & Audit Committees.







Mick TurnbullMICK TURNBULL
Mick joined the Board in September 2016 as Board Chair Elect. He is a professional company director in both commercial and not-for-profit sectors.
Special responsibilities
CBM Australia Deputy Board Chair. Member of all Board Committees as Board Chair Elect.







Helen GreenHELEN GREEN
Appointed to the Board in 2010, Helen has qualifications in Development and Management. A resident of New Zealand, she was previously also Chair of the CBM New Zealand Board.
Special responsibilities
Member of the Finance & Audit and Programs Committees.







Benjamin SmithBENJAMIN SMITH
Appointed to the Board in May 2011, Ben holds a Doctor of Philosophy alongside qualifications in Social Work and Public Health.
Special responsibilities
Chair of the Programs Committee and Member of the Innovation and Community Engagement Committee. CBM International Assembly Delegate.







Shawn ChoongSHAWN CHOONG
Shawn joined the Board in May 2012. He is an obstetrician gynaecologist specialising in ultrasound.
Special responsibilities
Chair of the Board Development & Human Resources Committee and Member of the Finance & Audit Committee.







Karen StrekfussKAREN STRECKFUSS
Appointed to the Board in August 2014, Karen holds Bachelors of Arts and Laws, is a Barrister at the Victorian Bar, and is a Human Resources specialist. 
Special responsibilities
Member of the Board Development & Human Resources Committee and Interim Chair, Innovation and Community Engagement Committee.







Tim BudgeTIM BUDGE
Tim was appointed to the Board in August 2015. Tim's qualifications include Master of Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Bachelors of Theology and Science. He is an international development specialist. Tim serves as the CBM Australia delegate to the CBM International Supervisory Assembly.
Special responsibilities
Member of the Programs and Innovation and Community Engagement Committees.







Elizabeth LucasELIZABETH LUCAS
Elizabeth joined the Board in November 2016, having joined the Finance and Audit Committee at the beginning of the year. She is a partner with Grant Thornton, a leading assurance, tax and advisory firm.
Special responsibilities
Chair of the Finance & Audit Committee.







Elaine MilesELIANE MILES
Eliane joined the Board in November 2016. She is social researcher, consultant and strategist. Eliane is the Research Director at McCrindle, a research-based communications advisory.

Member of the Board Development & Human Resources and Innovation & Community Engagement Committees.
